8 Aston Road - Chestnut Hill
The residence at 8 Aston Road was originally built in 1951 for a local psychiatrist who had very particular requirements. The architect for this property was Harry Ramsay, who was also the original designer of another Rosemont project at 28 Hallwood Road, Chestnut Hill. The original owner lived in the house until 2011, when Rosemont acquired the property for redevelopment. The house sits on a large property convenient to services, private schools, transportation, and public and private recreation facilities.
Our development plan encompasses a total renovation and a generous expansion of the house, and a redefinition of its presence on the street. A new stone retaining wall extends for over 100 feet along the front of the house, where a relocated driveway helps to create a more gracious view of the main façade. Other features of the front landscape development include a granite and brick walk to the front door, major foundation and lot line planting consistent with the design of a better home.
The interior of the house has been expanded into what was the attic level, and completely re-designing the main floor to reflect the needs of today’s family lifestyle. Exterior materials include brick walls, red cedar shingled dormers, copper valleys and roof edges, and wood windows with divided lights.
The house features an exceptionally gracious entrance and stair hall that leads to the living room, dining room, breakfast room and kitchen. The kitchen will boast custom wood cabinets, granite counters and Subzero and Wolf appliances. There is a library off the living room and a guest room with an en-suite bath. The upper level contains the master bedroom suite, as well as 3 family bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. The master bedroom suite is equipped with a gas fireplace, large “his” and “her” closets, and a spacious well appointed bathroom. A large laundry room on the bedroom level will provide day-to-day convenience.
The lower level features a large family room with a massive masonry fireplace, with direct walk out access to the rear yard.
The spacious property features masonry retaining walls a large brick patio and extensive lawn areas. Mature planting and fencing provide privacy. A large deck off the kitchen also provides access to the rear yard.
The house is conditioned by a 4-zone hydro-air system and is equipped with a central vacuum system. The residence has achieved a Tier II Rating in the Massachusetts New Homes with Energy Star program. The livable area of the house is approximately 6,100 sf, and the lot area is 24,729 sf.
